Celebrate Disability Pride With RISE this July and Year-Round
Join RISE Services, Inc. Missouri this July as we celebrate Disability Pride Month. Through our day support programs, employment support programs, and more, we’re inspired every day by individuals with disabilities who show their individuality and strengths. We’re proud to support and amplify their voices. Here are some ways you can join in our mission and celebrate Disability Pride throughout the year.

1. Educate Yourself on Disability Rights and History
Advocacy begins with understanding. Take time to learn about the Disability Rights Movement and the challenges individuals continue to face. Familiarize yourself with groundbreaking legislation like the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and explore books and documentaries written by people with disabilities, like:
- Disability Visibility by Alice Wong
- Being Heumann by Judith Heumann
- Crip Camp: A Disability Revolution Documentary
These resources offer valuable insights into the lived experiences of individuals with disabilities.
2. Join the Conversation
This month, we celebrate creating space for individuals to share their perspectives and build relationships grounded in mutual respect. If you or someone you love has a disability, you have a valuable story to tell. People living with disabilities are experts in their own experiences, so share freely! We need your voice.
3. Support Creators With Disabilities
Celebrate the contributions of individuals with disabilities by supporting creators year-round. Dive into art and online content created by people with disabilities, and amplify their work online. Purchasing from these artists can make a meaningful impact on how individuals with disabilities are recognized and celebrated.
4. Commit to Inclusion Year-Round
True advocacy is about integrating inclusivity into every aspect of daily life. Some examples are:
- Speaking out against harmful messaging when you see it, whether at work or in a social setting.
- Advocating for individuals with disabilities in hiring practices and educational opportunities.
- Donating money, volunteering time, or working for non-profit organizations that are committed to supporting people with disabilities.
Being an ally involves challenging assumptions and continually educating others. Empower those around you to join in fostering inclusive spaces, because it takes all of us to make lasting change.
Celebrate With RISE
At RISE Services, Inc. Missouri, we believe Disability Pride shouldn’t be confined to one month. It’s a mindset that can transform communities when practiced year-round. We proudly celebrate individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder through our comprehensive services at our St. Louis Opportunity Center.
